  • Section 1 - Overview

Hamm's Variety Hour is not a traditional league. For most, you'd only be using one type of car with Equal Performance enabled to put everyone on the same level. Here though? You not only have completely free reign over what teams to pick, but Equal Performance is disabled. The league is balanced around this, and that will be explained with the points system in Section 3.

Understanding the regulations for this league is critical to winning the championship, so make sure you don't miss any details.

    Section 2 - Calendar

Every race on the original 2020 F1 Calendar will be run. The order will remain almost the exact same as well, with the only exceptions being that Japan and Brazil are now the last two races of the season.

Tracks will alternate between using Modern Cars and Classic Cars depending on what the track favours more. There are an equal amount of Modern Car races and Classic Car races, so being good at both is critical to being competitive.

Here is the calendar for the season, and what cars will be used:

  • Australia - Modern Cars
  • Bahrain - Modern Cars (Sprint)
  • Vietnam - Classic Cars (V10 Advantage)
  • China - Modern Cars
  • Holland - Classic Cars (V8 Advantage)
  • Spain - Modern Cars
  • Monaco - Classic Cars (V8 Advantage)
  • Azerbaijan - Classic Cars (V10 Advantage)
  • Canada - Modern Cars
  • France - Modern Cars
  • Austria - Modern Cars
  • Britain - Classic Cars (V10 Advantage) (Sprint)
  • Hungary - Modern Cars
  • Belgium - Classic Cars (V10 Advantage)
  • Monza - Classic Cars (V10 Advantage)
  • Singapore - Classic Cars (V10 Advantage)
  • Russia - Modern Cars
  • USA - Classic Cars (No Advantage) (Sprint)
  • Mexico - Modern Cars
  • Abu Dhabi - Modern Cars
  • Japan - Classic Cars (V8 Advantage) (Sprint)
  • Brazil - Classic Cars (No Advantage)

  • To learn what the advantages for the Classic Car section means and the rules of the Sprint Races, check Section 3 of the regulations.

Section 3 - Point System / Grid System / Sprint Races

Regular points will be handed out in a near identical way to the 2020 F1 regulations with the exception of the Fastest Lap point working different.

Here is how points are distributed for race finishes:
  • 1st: 25
  • 2nd: 18
  • 3rd: 15
  • 4th: 12
  • 5th: 10
  • 6th: 8
  • 7th: 6
  • 8th: 4
  • 9th: 2
  • 10th: 1

  • Bonus points are the main reason you'll want to consider picking a slower car if you can get away with it. Every car has a different amount of bonus points given. To earn these bonus points, you have to finish the race without being a lap down on the leader. This makes it so that backmarkers still have to drive quick to stay ahead of the leader if they want to secure the bonus points that picking their car would get them. You are also awarded double the bonus points if you finish on the podium.

Here is the list for bonus point distribution:

    MODERN CARS:
  • Mercedes W11 - 0
  • Red Bull RB16 - 2
  • Racing Point RP20 - 3
  • Ferrari SF1000 - 5
  • McLaren MCL35 - 5
  • Renault R.S.20 - 6
  • AlphaTauri AT01 - 7
  • Haas VF-20 - 8
  • Alfa Romeo C39 - 9
  • Williams FW43 - 10

  • CLASSIC CARS:
  • Ferrari F2004 - 0 (1 if the track does not favour it)

  • Williams FW25 - 1 (2 if the track does not favour it)
  • Red Bull RB6 - 1 (2 if the track does not favour it)
  • McLaren MP4-25 - 1 (2 if the track does not favour it)
  • Ferrari F10 - 1 (2 if the track does not favour it)

  • For the six fastest cars, there are some tracks where the V8's are faster than the V10's and vice versa. If you are on a track where your selected car has a disadvantage, you will have one extra bonus point added to your tally. This stacks with the doubling you get for putting the car on the podium.

If you score the fastest lap, you will be given an extra 50% in your pool of bonus points. In the case of there being a decimal number in this calculation, the bonus points will always be rounded up.

The splits in the list for the Classic Cars indicate how the grid system works. Qualifying is not run in any session. Instead, the grid position you start with is determined by how slow your team is. The slowest teams start at the front and the fastest teams start at the back. For identical Cars / Groups, priority is given to whoever has less points in the championship. If the points are equal, it will instead be decided by who had a better result in the previous race.

Sprint Races are run exclusively on short variants of the track. They will not give out any regular points, and instead bonus points will ONLY be handed out to the winner and whoever scores the fastest lap.

    Section 4 - Race Settings

Regular races will be run at 50% distance. Sprint races will be run before Regular races on tracks that have short length variants and will be run at 25% distance.

Damage is enabled, but it will be set to "Reduced".

Safety Cars are turned off. If they were turned on, that would give a huge advantage to anyone going for bonus points as every safety car would reset the progress made by the leader to catch up to the backmarkers.

    Weather is completely randomised.

    Section 5 - Reserve Drivers

If you are unable to attend a race, you can hire a reserve driver to race on behalf of you. Every point they score will go to you. This acts as a great way for people who find out about the league after it starts to contribute to it's championship.

You can only hire one reserve driver, and you can't switch your reserve driver after they have already been brought in.

Your reserve driver can show up to a maximum of 5 races.

There is a separate lower stakes championship for reserve drivers. If there is a reserve driver that ends up changing the result of the main championship with points that they score, they will be handed the reserve drivers championship even if they didn't score the most points as a reserve driver.

    Section 6 - Golden Rules

If you are a backmarker, do NOT crash into the leader of the race if they are battling you. Doing so could lead to a reduction of championship points depending on how severe the incident is.

No cheating, obviously. Any signs of cheating will result in an immediate league ban.

Intentionally slowing down to damage other cars is a major rule break and is punishable by either a deduction in championship points or race bans if the rule is repeatedly broken.

If possible, please record your POV of the race. I will be making highlights of every race, so this would help me tremendously.
